Most burglars enter through doors, and many simply kick them in. Reinforcing your doors and frames makes forced entry much more difficult.
The Weak Points
Strike Plate
Standard strike plates use short screws that only reach the door frame. A strong kick can split the frame. Solution: Install a reinforced strike plate with 3-inch screws that reach the wall studs.
Door Frame
Wood frames can split under force. Reinforcement kits add metal plates along the frame for strength.
Hinges
Doors with exposed hinges can be defeated by removing the hinge pins. Security hinges have non-removable pins or are positioned on the interior side.
Door Material
Hollow-core doors offer little resistance. Solid wood or metal-clad doors are much stronger.
